Corpses

by Steve Hood

Steve Hood is an attorney who has lived in Bellingham for more than 10 years. He has published one poetry book focusing on the topic of astronomy and is currently working on a second book focusing on death and environmental collapse.

Armor scales reflect
sunlight in blue seas.
One hundred tons of fish wash
up on the sandy beaches
of Brazil.

And it’s going on everywhere.

Wings of hollow bones
and feathers.
Thousands of dead birds fall
suddenly from the empty skies
of Arkansas.

And it is going on worldwide.

Sweden, New Zealand, Japan.

Pincers wave on rocky beach,
walking sideways.
Forty thousand dead devil crabs
cover cold shores
of England.

And it is going on now.
