People for Lake Whatcom Survey

by April Markiewicz

April Markiewicz is president of People for Lake Whatcom.

People for Lake Whatcom asked the 27 candidates running for Whatcom County executive, County Council, Bellingham mayor and City Council positions 10 questions relevant to the lake’s water quality and protection of the surrounding watershed. Each answer required only a “Yes” or “No” response.

Five candidates did not respond to or return the questionnaire and are indicated with an “NR.” Some candidates abstained from answering a question and those responses are indicated with an “A.” Some candidates selected both “Yes” and “No” for a question and those responses are indicated with a “Y/N.” People for Lake Whatcom hopes you will find these answers informative as you evaluate who you will vote for in the primary and general election this fall. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions regarding this survey please call 360-676-1254 or e-mail info@pflw.org.

People for Lake Whatcom is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the protection and preservation of Lake Whatcom Reservoir and its surrounding watershed through education and advocacy. We believe that adequate protection of the Reservoir necessitates minimizing current human impacts in its watershed and implementing policies and procedures that stop, as well as reverse the damage that has been done to the water quality in Lake Whatcom.
